The Chancel Choir is the primary choir for our worship services at Aldersgate. They help to lead worship by offering choral music and by leading hymns each Sunday morning. Choir members learn to read music, use proper vocal technique, and work as a team to serve Aldersgate with excellent sacred music. A few times per year, the Chancel Choir also presents services of “special music”, which are typically situated around Christmas, Easter, and other Feast Days throughout the Christian year. In December 2024, the Chancel Choir presented the Advent portion of Handel’s Messiah, accompanied by the Mallarmé Chamber Players on period instruments.
We are always looking for new choir members! Previous choral experience is helpful, but not required. Practices occur on Wednesdays from 7:00-8:30 p.m. and Sundays from 10:30-10:50 a.m. To join, email Henry, our Director of Music, at henry@aldersgate.org.
If you enjoy handbells or just like hitting things with mallets, consider joining the Joyful Noise Ringers, our handbell choir at Aldersgate. This friendly and welcoming ensemble is more like a family – we have lots of fun together each week. We build skills and community by connecting excellent technique to the heart of our sacred music.
Whether you enjoy the high-pitched “tinkling” ½ lb. bells, or you would like to get your workout in with the 15 lb. bells, there is a place for everyone! Some background in music literacy is strongly encouraged, but not required. If you’re interested in joining, but not too sure of your skills, contact Henry, our Director of Music, at henry@aldersgate.org for musical coaching and some gentle encouragement. This ensemble meets on Tuesday nights 7:00-8:30 and rings in worship 4-5 times per year.
Individual musicians at Aldersgate serve our congregation each week with their gifts. All instruments are welcome!
Do you play an instrument? Please reach out to Henry at henry@aldersgate.org. If you are not sure about your skills, Henry will be happy to help you assess your skill level and find a way you can serve our congregation.
