Confirmation Invitation

We would like to invite students 7th grade and above to participate in our Confirmation program for the 2019-2020 school year. We will be holding Confirmation from October 2019 through May 2020 with appropriate breaks for holidays and such.

We will meet during the Sunday School hour from 9:45-10:45. The leaders for this year are Rev. Eric Prenshaw, Lydia Cauley, and Rev. Bryan Faggart, along with a few other mentors and teachers from our congregation. If you are interested in serving as a Confirmation mentor, please let us know!

In addition, we will have a required retreat on March 6-8, 2020, at Lake Junaluska. Please mark your calendars for this important date. We have tentatively set Confirmation Sunday as May 3, 2020. We will have an interest meeting in September to go over the Confirmation program and schedule in detail

In Christ,

Rev. Eric Prenshaw, Pastor of Christian Formation

Lydia Cauley, Director of Youth and Outreach

Summer Sunday School

From June 2 through August 25 we will offer two children’s classes. Our Preschool class will be for 2 year old through current Kindergartners. They will study our usual Deep Blue Curriculum. Our elementary class will be for current 1st-4th graders. Current 5th graders will be promoted to attend the Youth Sunday School class that meets in the youth room.

Helper’s needed: We are looking for teachers for children’s Sunday School during the summer from June-August. Typically this is a time when our regular teachers are on vacation or enjoying a break. You can choose to serve only once or a few times. Lessons and training are provided. Safe Sanctuary training and background check required. Contact Pastor Eric, if you can help.

This summer our elementary Sunday School class will be exploring a 3-unit curriculum called “An Illustrated Invitation” by Illustrated Children’s Ministry. Summer is a really busy time, full of vacations, camps, trips, and other times when you may not be able to make it to Sunday School. To help you stay engaged with your faith over the summer, we are providing a summer devotional, designed by the team at Illustrated Children’s Ministry. You can pick up your copy at church starting in June. If you would like a digital copy, email Pastor Eric at

Sometimes it can be intimidating to think about how to do a family devotional together, but this resource makes it really simple, fun, and something you can do on-the-go. Families can go through the stories in order, or pick and choose, based on what their children are interested in. All of these stories connect with our theme of invitation, and we hope they will get you and your children thinking about how to join God at work in the world. They are meant to be easy ways to engage with scripture and talk with your children about faith. Each lesson comes with a coloring page that illustrates a central part of the biblical story for that lesson.
