Your Christmas
is sponsored by the Durham County Department of Social Services, and
provides needy families with gifts of NEW clothing, toys and needed
household items. Each year Aldersgate sponsors approximately 25-30
families totaling about 100 individuals. Individuals or entire families
can be sponsored by signing up on forms that will be posted in the Narthex
or
online over the web. Suggested limits are $50 per family member. In
addition, contributions of $50 cash will supply each family with a
Christmas Food Basket. Wrapped gifts should be delivered to the Church by
Saturday, December 8th. Delivery by the Aldersgate United Methodist Men
will be Sunday, December 9th. Contact Richard Low @
rlow@topsailtech.com
for more information.
CONDUIT
Angels
(Congregations
of
Northern
Durham
United
In
Intention)
provides Christmas gifts to the children participating in the afterschool
program at the Oxford Manor low income Housing Complex. There are 40
children receiving daily help with their homework at the Oxford Manor
Community Center. CONDUIT has a Christmas party for the children before
Christmas break and provides a gift to each child. The gifts usually
include a toy requested by the child and/or needed clothes or shoes.
Aldersgate will sponsor 12-14 children in the program. Contact Lee King @

The
Reindeer Store
at Central Regional Hospital in Butner. The Reindeer Store program is
designed to give their patients the chance to get presents for their
family members. On the 1st Wednesday in December the hospital converts
their gym and lobby corridor into a shopping mall for a day. Patients come
throughout the day to Christmas shop for their families or friends. The
patients are given “Reindeer Bucks” with which to shop for whatever they
would like for their family, friends, or even for themselves. All the
items in the Reindeer Stores are new merchandise that has been donated by
various community organizations and individuals. The only gift
requirements are that the items be new, in good taste with no sexual,
violent or depressing images, and no gifts in glass containers or
containing alcohol. By supporting the Reindeer Store with gifts we allow
all residents to shop for their own gifts as well as for families and
friends. The patients have autonomy over their purchases and get to enjoy
the Christmas Spirit, despite their circumstances. During November we will
be collecting gifts or donations for the upcoming Reindeer Store.
